Sinbin's Musings

This is my Virtual Notebook for "Web Page Design for Beginners" that I am taking through Virtual University, to practice tags and take notes about the lessons. I hope to be able to set up web pages for myself, my hubby, and dedicate one to my dog!

My hubby is an avid Arctic Cat snowmobile enthusiast, and builds and restores vintage sleds as a hobby. I'd like to learn how to put digital photos of the sleds he has restored, and spare parts he has collected, on his site.

My dog is just over two years old, and is taking agility classes, but hasn't yet competed. Her site will be a testimonial to her (and a future memorial). We think she is the best dog in the world!

Well, enough rambling for now - time to go back, and learn how to separate my paragraphs, and other fun stuff!

I had to ask about inserting the paragraphs tags, as my logo did not position itself properly. Am now going to go back and try to bold the word "best". Yeah!! It worked!

First opened, last closed, last used first closed. OK, and use all lowercase. Main tags and formating tags on lines of their own. Style tags on same lines. Descriptive alt attributes and height and width attributes in image tags - I'll wait for next week to try to get a handle on this.

On to the Lesson 1 Assignment: URL of a page I like a lot is: Tim Hunkins Blog
Why I like it - the photos are great page indices, and you can instantly see the area of interest you are looking for. This approach should work well for me, as I play around with content for my own site.

I have found a great site I'd like to share with all of my classmates:   The Webby Awards.
This site has links to winning websites for many different categories. Check it out! It will boggle your mind!

Tags - am now going back to add some paragraph tags, line breaks and centre a line.
I am now centreing this line:

(I'm sorry, I'm Canadian, I'm going to have some trouble spelling "center"! LOL)

On to my heading - I think I'll call it "Sinbin's Musings". Hey, that looks not too bad!

Next task - call my ISP and try to get my page on the web. Stay tuned!!

Well, I spoke to a very nice technician named Daniel, and my page is on the web! Fantastic! Now, should I try and upload this, or just leave well enough alone? VBG
Off to post on the classroom discussion board, and brag to some friends! This is amazing!

Tag Reference

<b> </b> these tags create bold text
<strong> </strong> these tags create bold emphasis in most browsers, and should be used if your target audience might be using speech browsers
<em> </em> these tags create a verbal emphasis, sometimes appearing as italicized text, again depending on the browser.

Some special characters that will be useful to me (because I am Canadian) are: ì, á, ê, ç. Of course, these will only be needed if I intend to mirror my site in French!

I found a great site that gave me a print out of the special character codes: Shirley's site. Thanks, Shirley!!
